The cooperative first-person shooter Abyssus is now officially available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The console launch arrives alongside the free Update 1.3, which is also rolling out to PC players with a wave of new content, gameplay improvements, and crossplay support.
Abyssus launches on PS5 and Xbox Series XS with update 1.3
Developed by DoubleMoose and published by The Arcade Crew, Abyssus combines first-person action, roguelike elements, and cooperative matches for up to four players in an adventure set deep within the ocean.
The primary focus of version 1.3 is expanding the content available during matches. According to the developer, these additions increase the variety of each expedition to reinforce the game’s focus on replayability.
Key content additions:
A new deity: introduces a brand-new god alongside unprecedented blessings for both skills and weapons.
Expanded blessings: new blessings have been added for the game’s existing gods.
New environment: a completely new area is now available for players to explore.
Fresh threats: unprecedented enemies and bosses have been integrated into the game.
Dynamic content: new random objectives will now trigger during matches.
Crossplay and system overhauls
A core feature of this update is the introduction of crossplay, which connects the community across all available platforms. Users on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S can now form teams together regardless of the system they are playing on.
Additionally, the update introduces a completely overhauled skill tree and brings targeted improvements to both the matchmaking and quick play systems.
Optional cosmetics and PS5 physical edition
Alongside the free update, players can purchase optional content or opt for a complete physical release on console.
The Brinerot Pack (Digital DLC)
Available as an optional, separate purchase, this pack focuses strictly on character customization cosmetics and includes:
A new outfit
A helmet
A new emote
A portrait frame
The Brine Edition (PS5 Physical Release)
PlayStation 5 players can purchase a physical retail edition of the game. This bundle compiles the base game along with four specific DLC packs:
Brinehunter
Brineguard
Brinefrost
Brinerot
Deep-sea lore and roguelike customization
In Abyssus, players step into the shoes of a Brinehunter, an explorer sent to the ocean floor to investigate a mysterious source of electromagnetic energy. This mission leads the group to discover a forgotten, submerged civilization. To survive, players must battle hordes of corrupted creatures using weapons powered by an ancient technology based on brine.
The experience is designed to support diverse playstyles, allowing users to play completely solo or in teams of up to four participants.
Progression and build variety:
To ensure that each match features distinct character builds, the progression system relies on extensive customization layers:
Weapon Crafting: Every weapon features 6 distinct categories of modifications.
Forge Mechanics: Features more than 124 forge modifications.
Upgrades: Includes over 250 blessings and amulets, alongside various upgrades for skills and equipment.
With its arrival on consoles, the introduction of crossplay, and a content-expanding update, Abyssus aims to grow its player base while maintaining its core focus on intense cooperative combat and high replayability.
