‘Battlefield 6’ success drives executive bonuses at EA alongside developer layoffs

Despite Battlefield 6 achieving all of its sales and quality targets to become one of last year’s best-selling games, the title’s commercial success did not prevent layoffs for many of its creator, seven as Electronic Arts (EA) executives received generous financial bonuses.

Released on October 10, 2025, Battlefield 6 launched to widespread critical and public acclaim, leading a high-revenue year for Electronic Arts.

Executive compensation and filings

According to mandatory public financial disclosures filed by EA, CEO Andrew Wilson received $38.69 million in stock and additional bonuses as a direct result of the shooter’s success. This marks a significant increase from his previous earnings:

  • 2024: $25.6 million
  • 2025: $30.5 million
  • Latest Period: $38.69 million

Other top executives at the company also received substantial bonuses:

  • Laura Miele (President): $13.7 million
  • Stuart Canfield (Chief Financial Officer): $11.3 million
  • Jacob Schatz (Chief Legal Officer): $8.4 million
  • Mala Singh (Chief People Officer): $8.3 million

Studio layoffs and restructuring

In March of this year, Electronic Arts conducted workforce cuts across key studios responsible for the franchise, including Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios. EA characterized the decision as an effort to “realign expectations,” while reaffirming its commitment to the future of the Battlefield franchise and delivering ongoing updates for the game.

Portfolio performance and AI strategy

In its legal filings, EA highlighted broader performance metrics across its gaming portfolio and outlined new operational initiatives:

  • EA Sports FC: Recovered from a prior decline, expanding player engagement across multiple regions.
  • skate.: The free-to-play title exceeded its internal engagement targets.
  • EA Sports American Football: Met sales expectations, though it missed some publisher-defined goals.
  • Artificial Intelligence Initiatives: EA initiated an “audacious” strategy to integrate artificial intelligence solutions across its operations. The company established strategic partnerships and created a generative AI investment system intended to drive research, expansions, and efficiencies. However, these AI initiatives do not appear to be connected to the layoffs affecting the Battlefield 6 development teams.
