Call of Duty Live-Action movie set for 2028, written by ‘Yellowstone’ creator Taylor Sheridan

Paramount Pictures has officially scheduled the theatrical release of the live-action Call of Duty movie for June 30, 2028. According to reports by Entertainment Weekly, the script has been signed by Taylor Sheridan, Peter Berg, and Zay Bond.

The film is being produced by Sheridan, Berg, and David Glasser. Paramount and Activision view the project as a potential launchpad for future cinematic endeavors based on the franchise, provided the audience’s response is positive—a gamble the report notes is risky, given that video game adaptations are not always well-received.

What is known about the plot

While the exact plot details remain strictly under wraps, the publication indicates that the narrative will not adapt a specific game from the series. Instead, the storyline will focus on elite special forces.

The creative direction aims to deliver a realistic military narrative while remaining faithful to the core video game franchise, which has sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide.

“We want to ensure that authenticity is captured on a human level, to feel truly real, and infuse that with an epic scope,” explained Rob Kostich, president of Activision and producer, while detailing the team’s vision at this year’s CinemaCon.

The reunion of Sheridan and Berg

This project marks a high-profile reunion for Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg, who previously collaborated on Hell or High Water (A Qualquer Custo), an Oscar-nominated crime drama written by Sheridan and produced by Berg. Both creators bring extensive credentials to this military adaptation:

Creative track records:

  • Peter Berg: Holds established credentials in military action cinema, having directed Lone Survivor (O Grande Herói).
  • Taylor Sheridan: His portfolio includes acclaimed feature films such as Sicario (Sicario: Terra de Ninguém) and Wind River (Terra Selvagem), alongside television series like Landman, Tulsa King (starring Sylvester Stallone), Lioness, and the expanding Yellowstone universe.
