Capcom outlines plan for ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ to exceed ‘Monster Hunter World’ sales

Capcom announced during a shareholders’ meeting that it aims to reach at least 30 million units sold for Monster Hunter Wilds. To reignite sales momentum after an initial post-launch slowdown, the developer is executing a strategy centered on technical fixes, a free demo, and a major expansion planned for 2027.

Capcom outlines plan for 'Monster Hunter Wilds' to exceed 'Monster Hunter World' sales

Released in early 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds recorded strong initial sales in its opening weeks. However, sales momentum slowed rapidly, frustrating Capcom’s initial goal of outperforming Monster Hunter World. Despite the slowdown, the company confirmed it has not abandoned its target to reach 30 million copies sold before the title is eventually phased out.

The three-pillar growth strategy

To reach its sales goal, Capcom is relying on three key initiatives:

1. Technical Optimization

Capcom is focusing on improving the technical performance of Monster Hunter Wilds. Since its debut, the title has been widely known for running poorly across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

2. Free Demo

On Wednesday (5), Capcom released a free demo across all platforms to rebuild consumer confidence.

  • Content: Allows players to play through the first three chapters of the game at no cost.
  • Progress Transfer: Players can carry their save data over to the full game upon completion.
  • Objective: Demonstrates to potential buyers that technical issues have been resolved and that the game is worth purchasing.

3. ‘Ascendance’ Expansion (2027)

The third pillar of Capcom’s plan relies on a major expansion titled Ascendance, scheduled for release in 2027. Capcom promises the expansion will deliver sufficient content additions and adjustments to rival the quality of Monster Hunter World and match its historical sales figures.
