Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO releases largest expansion ever with 33 new characters

Bandai Namco Entertainment launched Super Limit-Breaking NEO on Wednesday (30), marking the largest DLC expansion ever produced for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. The expansion is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 releases scheduled for a later date.

Developed by Spike Chunsoft, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO brought back the Budokai Tenkaichi series with high-speed combat, destructible arenas, and a massive roster. The new expansion adds a solo game mode, original story content, extra stages, and 33 playable characters spanning nearly every era of the franchise created by Akira Toriyama.

New solo mode: limit breaker journey

The main highlight of the expansion is the solo campaign mode, Limit Breaker Journey (Jornada Limit Breaker):

  • Character Progression: Players select a fighter and face a sequence of increasingly powerful opponents to strengthen their character throughout the campaign.
  • Custom Builds: Progression allows players to upgrade attributes, customize character evolution, and craft builds tailored to different combat styles.
  • Replay Value: Designed around individual character progression, the mode encourages repeated playthroughs using different fighters.

Super Limit-Breaking NEO expands the game’s roster by introducing 33 playable fighters from across the Dragon Ball timeline:

In addition to the expanded roster, the expansion adds fresh single-player content:

Free gameplay update & new combat mechanics

Alongside the paid DLC, Bandai Namco released a free update for all players, introducing new mechanics and visual updates:

  • Sparking! Boost (Reforço Sparking!): While in Sparking! mode, players can consume a large amount of Technique Stock to significantly increase offensive power at the cost of a temporary reduction in defensive stats.
  • Blast Chain (Cadeia de Explosões): A team combo mechanic allowing players to launch an enemy into the air, quickly tag in a reserve character, and continue the assault with an explosive attack.
  • Stage Variants: Adds three extra stage variants to increase visual diversity during battles.
