Loot reclassification and equipment buffs

  • Field Item Adjustments: Patch 1.17 changes the rarity classification of specific field items and elite enemy drops in the Land of Shadow. This reclassification aims to resolve a four-year-old complaint regarding low-value rewards being marked as rare loot.
  • Greatshields: Received increased blocking performance and reduced weight to make defensive builds more viable compared to medium shields.
  • Perfume Bottles: Attack power was increased, partially reversing previous nerfs (though remaining below their initial DLC launch strength).
  • Weapons: Smithscript weapons now deal higher throwing attack damage, while Rellana’s Twin Blades received a critical hit buff.
  • Spell Upgrades: Founding Rain of Stars, Carian Retaliation, Meteorite, Meteorite of Astel, Gravity Missile, Divine Bird Feathers, O, Flame!, and Rain of Fire received increased damage, faster casting speeds, or extended range.
  • Parry Skill Enhancements: Parry, Thops’s Barrier, and Storm Wall received improved parrying windows. Thops’s Barrier and Storm Wall also maintain the ability to deflect ranged attacks.

PvP nerfs and from software roadmap

  • Rakshasa’s Great Katana Nerf: Players now take increased damage in PvP while attacking with the weapon, and attack delay is increased when dual-wielded in the left hand.
  • PvP-Specific Nerfs: Rugalea’s Roar, Rotten Breath, and Ekzykes’s Decay received minor nerfs exclusive to PvP mode, leaving their single-player performance untouched.
  • Future Outlook: Coming four years after the game’s initial release, Patch 1.17 may be Elden Ring‘s final major update. FromSoftware is approaching the launch of The Duskbloods. Following Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods, the studio plans to return to its traditional single-player adventure format.
