Expansion of ‘The Last of Us’ franchise

  • Early Stage Development: In a statement, Neil Druckmann explained that the studio has discussed telling additional stories in the franchise since the release of the Grounded 2 documentary. Two new projects are currently in early development stages.
  • Format and Character Scope: The projects are intended to expand upon the lore of the two existing games. However, Naughty Dog clarified that these stories may not necessarily take the form of video games—leaving open possibilities such as films, TV series, comics, or other media—and may not feature main characters Joel and Ellie.
  • Creative Rationale: Druckmann stated Naughty Dog opted to return to the franchise because they felt they had something “meaningful” to say, though no release window or reveal timeline was provided.

Development update: ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’

  • Current Progress: Addressing the sci-fi title originally revealed in 2024, Naughty Dog stated that while various elements of the game are coming together quickly, the project still needs to “cook a bit more.”
  • Full Reveal Set for 2027: Druckmann announced that Naughty Dog will not share further details about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet until 2027, thanking fans for their continued patience as the team works to deliver a worthwhile experience.
