Resident Evil Veronica surpasses 2 million wishlists ahead of 2027 release

Capcom took to social media to celebrate and thank players after Resident Evil Veronica reached over 2 million wishlists across multiple platforms, including Steam, PSN, Xbox Live, and the Nintendo Store. The milestone highlights strong player interest in the next remake of the franchise, which is slated for release in 2027.

Wishlist milestone and platform impact

To commemorate the milestone, Capcom shared an image featuring one of the remake’s new characters, accompanied by a lighthearted promise of 2 million cookies for players who wishlisted the title.

While wishlist counts do not guarantee actual sales, given that conversion rates vary per game and many players either wishlist without buying at launch or purchase without wishlisting, they remain a critical metric for developers:

  • Visibility Boost: A high number of wishlists improves the game’s visibility on storefronts like Steam, helping market the title to a broader audience.
  • Measuring Interest: The milestone offers Capcom concrete evidence of public demand for the remake.

Elevating a franchise classic

The original Resident Evil Code: Veronica debuted in 2000 as an exclusive for SEGA’s Dreamcast, followed a year later by a PlayStation 2 port titled Code: Veronica X.

  • Historical Context: Although canon and a commercial success for SEGA’s defunct console, the title was long viewed as an atypical and somewhat peripheral entry within the broader series.
  • A Mainline Focus: Capcom intends to transform Resident Evil Veronica into an indispensable release for fans, positioning the isolated adventure of the Redfield siblings as equally important as the numbered Resident Evil installments.

Development team and modernization

The remake is currently in development by key members of the dev team behind the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Capcom is actively making narrative adaptations to align the story of Resident Evil Veronica with the modernized continuity of the main series.
