Slay the Spire 2 Roadmap: New Characters and Acts Ahead, but Don’t Ask for Dates

Since its explosive Early Access debut in March 2025, Slay the Spire 2 has proven that lightning can indeed strike twice. With over 5 million copies sold in its first month and a steady 300,000 concurrent players, the pressure to deliver is massive.

However, in the April 2026 Newsletter, Mega Crit has made one thing clear: they aren’t bowing to the pressure of strict deadlines. Here is the roadmap and the philosophy behind it.

The 2026 Roadmap: What’s Coming to the Spire?

Mega Crit is focusing on expanding the core experience while maintaining the “silly” charm that fans love. The roadmap is split between systems and raw content.

CategoryIncoming Features & Content
New SystemsSteam Workshop Support, The Bestiary (Enemy Lore/Stats), More Languages, and Experimental Game Modes.
Raw ContentAlternate Act 2, Alternate Act 3, and a brand-new Playable Character.
Fresh LootNew Cards, Events, Relics, and Potions.
PolishAudio polish (more silly voices) and visual updates (replacing placeholder art).

The “No Sloppy Spire” Philosophy

In an era of developer crunch and broken promises, Mega Crit is taking a stand. Casey, a lead developer at Mega Crit, addressed why there are no firm dates attached to these milestones. The studio is prioritizing a healthy work environment over a fast-tracked release.

“Exacting deadlines produce sloppy uninspired work and I don’t want Sloppy Spire 2, I want Slay the Spire 2,” Casey stated.

The team remains small and has no plans to “massively expand” just to finish faster. This “experimental” approach is what led to fan-favorite moments like the Room Full of Cheese, and Mega Crit wants to keep that creative spark alive by evaluating tasks week-to-week rather than following a rigid corporate calendar.

Abwavesgame Take

Mega Crit’s honesty is refreshing. While fans are dying to see the Alternate Act 2 and the mysterious New Character, the quality of the base game suggests that whatever they are cooking will be worth the wait. Slay the Spire 2 is already a masterpiece in the making; letting the devs “slay” at their own pace is the best way to ensure the final 1.0 version is legendary.

Are you okay with waiting longer for a polished game, or do you prefer having a set date even if it means potential delays? Let us know in the comments!
