STALKER 2 developer denies reports of Xbox funding

In an official press statement, GSC Game World, the developer behind STALKER 2, addressed recent claims made by one of its co-founders, calling them exaggerated and inaccurate. The studio clarified that its history and financial backing should be grounded in facts rather than subjective opinions.

Breaking silence on founder’s claims

According to a representative who spoke to Insider Gaming, the studio’s current leadership initially chose to remain silent. However, they determined that staying quiet was no longer feasible as comments from co-founder Sergiy Grygorovych began to be accepted as truth. The company noted that “continued silence could be interpreted as confirmation of information that is not true.”

Key points regarding Grygorovych’s involvement:

  • No Negotiation Role: Grygorovych was not involved in negotiations with Xbox.
  • Departure: He left the business in 2023.
  • Development Cycle: He did not actively participate in the development cycle or the launch of the post-apocalyptic shooter.

“We have always honored these commitments [with partners] on our end. For this reason, his comments regarding the company’s activities cannot be considered a faithful reflection of the real state of affairs,” GSC Game World stated in its release.

Funding structure and facts

While GSC Game World did not disclose specific financial figures regarding the game’s funding, the developer emphasized that the studio’s owner, Max Krippa, was the primary individual responsible for financing STALKER 2.

“Developing STALKER 2 became one of the most challenging projects in the history of the video game industry. We believe that the story of this game should be based on facts, not assumptions or subjective opinions,” the developer added, expressing gratitude to everyone who helped bring the project to life.

What’s next for STALKER 2

GSC Game World expressed hope that public statements will not distract from what matters most to the team today: ongoing support for the title.

The studio confirmed it is actively working on updates and performance enhancements for STALKER 2, alongside its first major expansion (DLC). Details about the expansion are set to be shared soon, likely during Gamescom 2026, scheduled for August 24.
