Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake could finally be revealed in 2026

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) Remake has been through a turbulent journey since its original announcement in 2021. However, development is now reportedly moving smoothly, and a proper reveal could happen in 2026, according to a source known for accurate franchise leaks.

Rebooted development under Saber Interactive

A new video from the 100% Star Wars channel indicates that Saber Interactive completely restarted development on the KOTOR Remake after taking over the project from Aspyr Media. Since then, progress has reportedly picked up significant momentum.

“Not only has game development been accelerating, but it has been going extremely well over the last 3 years since Saber started from scratch,” the insider stated in the video.

The channel added: “They have been hiring some extremely top-tier talent in the industry, and Saber is a very unified front regarding the development of this game, with resources and talent being pulled from across the entire company.”

Potential reveals and release timelines

Despite the positive outlook, 100% Star Wars does not guarantee specific dates, noting that delays remain possible:

  • Reveal Window: While a 2026 reveal is possible, it could slip into next year if the developer decides to align the announcement with Star Wars Celebration, which runs from April 1 to April 4, 2027.
  • Target Launch: The game is currently targeted for release in 2028, but this timeline could also experience delays due to the “current state” of the gaming industry.

Looking ahead

With the calendar already in the second half of 2026, industry attention shifts to The Game Awards as the next major venue for gaming announcements. The event represents the final opportunity for the KOTOR Remake to demonstrate that it is alive and thriving before the end of the year.
