Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis delayed to 2027, drops extended gameplay trailer at State of Play

Lara Croft’s highly anticipated return is going to take a little longer than originally planned. During the June 2 PlayStation State of Play, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games showcased a stunning extended gameplay trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, while officially confirming that the game has slipped into February 12, 2027.

The ground-up remake of Lara Croft’s iconic 1996 debut adventure was previously targeted for a late 2026 window. However, the development teams at Crystal Dynamics and co-developer Flying Wild Hog are taking a few extra months to fully polish the title’s massive architectural and graphical leap.

Classic encounters reimagined in unreal engine 5

The extended look at gameplay confirms that the remake preserves the isolation and danger of the original 32-bit masterpiece while completely overhauling its technical scope:

  • Iconic Threats Return: The trailer gave fans a fresh, terrifying look at classic enemy encounters, including predatory panthers and the legendary, heart-stopping T-Rex battle.
  • Sprawling World Geometry: Environments like Peru’s Lost Valley, Greece, Egypt, and the Mediterranean have been entirely rebuilt. Instead of navigating a sequence of boxy, self-contained corridors, Legacy of Atlantis transforms these areas into massive, semi-connected sandboxes that players can explore from entirely new vertical angles.
  • Overhauled Puzzles: Classic environmental brain-teasers—including the infamous Lost Valley cog puzzle—have been redesigned from scratch to be physically and realistically integrated into the modern world logic.

Official synopsis

“Experience a stunning recreation of Lara Croft’s debut adventure to uncover the lost secrets of Atlantis with jaw-dropping visuals, innovative gameplay, and new surprises that honor the spirit of the original.”

Launch platforms & editions

When Lara’s rebuilt origin story arrives in early 2027, it will drop with multiplatform parity. Alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) versions.
