Released in July 2025 to positive reviews and high player engagement, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers saw its future turn uncertain shortly after launch. While the game originated in China, its next chapter will be managed from Italy.

The acquisition details

This week, the Italian publisher Digital Bros. announced it purchased the intellectual property for approximately €4 million. In an official statement, the company noted that this move allows them to define the future of the project and determine necessary investments.

Immediate impacts of the deal include:

  • Revenue: Digital Bros. will immediately begin receiving all income generated by the title.
  • Timeline: The publisher clarified that any new developments will take time, stating the acquisition will have no significant impact on the game during the current fiscal year.

Behind the scenes: the fall of Chengdu Lingzee

Despite reaching a peak of 131,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch, the game suffered from internal turmoil:

  • Staff Departure: Shortly after release, the core development team left to pursue other projects.
  • Studio Closure: Chengdu Lingzee was shut down after remaining members refused to work exclusively on support projects.
  • Player Drop-off: The lack of active support and updates resulted in a 97.9% decline in popularity, with current daily peaks sitting around 2,700 players.

Current player sentiment

The lack of post-launch support has heavily impacted the game’s reputation. On Steam, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers currently holds only a 56% approval rating. The primary complaints from the community involve:

  • Performance Issues: Significant technical instability.
  • Upscaler Dependency: Frustration over the game requiring upscalers just to function at a basic level.
