During a surprise digital presentation, Nintendo shared a brand-new trailer for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, confirming that the title will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2026. The game marks a departure from the “crafted” aesthetics of previous entries, opting instead for a world made entirely of paper engineering and mechanical book parts.
The trailer introduces the game’s core premise: a magical book has appeared in Yoshi’s Village, accidentally sucking the Yoshis and their world into its enchanted pages. Players must navigate “Chapters” that function as levels, where the environment can be folded, flipped, or rotated to reveal hidden paths and collectibles.
Visual style and sound
The artistic direction is a standout feature, mimicking the look of an expensive children’s pop-up book with intricate textures and “hand-drawn” illustrations. The soundtrack features a whimsical, acoustic-heavy score that matches the tactile and cozy feel of the game.
Amiibo Support and Pre-orders
Nintendo also announced a new Yoshi “Paper-Craft” Amiibo that will launch alongside the game. Scanning the figure will unlock exclusive patterns for Yoshi’s skin based on classic Nintendo characters. Pre-orders for the digital and physical versions are now live on the eShop and at major retailers.
