Resident Evil 9: Requiem Survival Guide—5 Essential tips to master the horror

As Capcom’s latest nightmare arrives, ABWaves Game provides a crucial walkthrough to help players navigate the dual-protagonist journey of Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace.

With the launch of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, players are once again thrust into a world of biological terror. This time, the adventure is split between the legendary Leon S. Kennedy and a new face, Grace. To ensure you don’t fall victim to the mutated horrors of Wrenwood and the ruins of Raccoon City, here are five vital tips for your first playthrough.

1. Let Leon do the heavy lifting

In Requiem, you will often explore the same environments from two different perspectives. A key strategy is to take advantage of Leon’s superior firepower and combat skills. When the game allows you to play as Leon first, use him to “clear” the area of zombies. By the time you return to the same location as Grace, the path will be much safer, allowing her to conserve her limited resources for exploration and puzzles.

2. Manage your hemolytic injectors wisely

The Hemolytic Injector is one of the most critical new items in the game. Any zombie that doesn’t suffer a “headburst” death has a chance to mutate into a faster, more aggressive version of itself. The Injector prevents this transformation. However, these items are rare. Instead of using them on every fallen foe, save them for zombies located in narrow corridors or “hub” areas that you know you’ll have to backtrack through multiple times.

3. Don’t hoard ammo for the “Requiem” magnum

While playing as Grace, you’ll obtain the Requiem, a powerful handgun that serves as the game’s version of a Magnum. While survival horror veterans usually hoard high-caliber ammo for bosses, the developers suggest a different approach here: if a particularly large or “tanky” zombie is blocking a mission objective, use the Requiem to take them down instantly. Saving yourself the stress and the healing items you’d lose in a prolonged fight is often worth the bullet.

4. Toggle between perspectives

Remember that Resident Evil 9 features a real-time perspective toggle. If you find yourself struggling with the claustrophobic feel of the First-Person mode, switch to Third-Person for better situational awareness during combat. Conversely, use the First-Person view when searching for hidden collectibles like the “Mr. Raccoon Memoriams” or puzzle clues hidden in the environment.

5. Listen to the environment

The sound design in Requiem is more tactical than ever. Listen for the distinct wet footsteps of “The Girl” or the low growls of mutated creatures through walls. Using a headset is highly recommended, as spatial audio will often give you the split second you need to dodge a lunging attack before the enemy even appears on screen.
