In a stunning announcement that defies the typical lifecycle of single-player RPGs, CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a brand-new narrative expansion. Titled Songs of the Past, the content is slated to launch in 2027, over a decade after the base game’s original release.

The announcement puts an end to intense speculation that Geralt of Rivia’s journey was entirely over. The new story content is being co-developed alongside Fool’s Theory, the external studio currently tasked with developing the ground-up remake of the original The Witcher game.
According to CD Projekt RED’s official social media channels, the studio initially planned to unveil the project during an upcoming anniversary livestream. However, the announcement was moved up after eagle-eyed players discovered expansion data prematurely loaded into the company’s proprietary RED Launcher.
While concrete plot details remain under wraps, CDPR confirmed that players will once again step into the boots of Geralt of Rivia.
Industry rumors suggest that Songs of the Past is being creatively designed to serve as a narrative bridge between the original trilogy and the upcoming The Witcher 4 (Codenamed Project Polaris), which is widely expected to feature Ciri in the leading protagonist role.
PC system requirements updated; Windows 10 dropped
While the expansion won’t arrive until 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, its technical footprint will trigger immediate changes. CD Projekt RED announced an upcoming patch that officially raises the base game’s minimum PC specifications to ensure future compatibility.
Furthermore, Windows 11 is now officially the minimum required Operating System for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR stated that because Microsoft is sunsetting official support for Windows 10, the studio will no longer test patches or new content on the older OS.
