Samson: A Tyndalston Story debuts on Steam plagued by bugs, creator apology

The debut title from studio Liquid Swords, Samson, arrived this past Wednesday (April 8) with the promise of delivering a unique action experience. However, early adopters quickly discovered that the game is riddled with bugs and significant performance issues.

Among those acknowledging the game’s poor state is Christofer Sundberg, one of the studio’s founders. Sundberg is a veteran of the industry, having co-founded Avalanche Studios and served as the creative director for the early entries of the Just Cause series.

In an open letter shared on Steam, Sundberg admitted that Samson launched with several “unacceptable” elements. These include:

  • Progression-Breaking Bugs: Issues that completely stall player advancement.
  • Performance Struggles: Optimization problems that persist even on high-end hardware.

Liquid Swords commits to fixes

“Launching a game involves a massive amount of work, and I am proud of the effort our team dedicated to bringing Samson from its initial concepts to launch,” Sundberg explained. He emphasized that Liquid Swords will not give up on the title and is already preparing multiple fixes.

The developer highlighted the most urgent priorities for the team: performance stability, animation glitches, mission advancement bugs, and general gameplay polish.

According to Sundberg, many of these issues will be addressed as early as this Friday (April 10), when the game is scheduled to receive its first patch. Additional updates for animations, gameplay mechanics, and further performance optimization are planned for the near future.

About Samson

Set in the city of Tyndalston, Samson tasks players with completing missions to earn enough money to clear the protagonist’s massive debt. The gameplay loop divides each day into three distinct periods, requiring players to decide how to optimize their time. However, the stakes are high: all earnings from a task are lost if the player fails to complete it.
