Crimson Desert drives 419% revenue surge for Pearl Abyss, future DLC already in the works

Following its highly anticipated launch on March 19, 2026, Crimson Desert has emerged as a massive global hit. According to South Korean developer Pearl Abyss’s Q1 2026 fiscal report, the open-world fantasy adventure successfully cleared 5 million copies sold in its first month, triggering a staggering 419% year-over-year surge in company revenue.

This breakout milestone generated $220.6 million (₩328.5 billion) in total operating revenue for the quarter. Factoring out operational expenses, Crimson Desert alone yielded roughly $142.5 million in operating profit in just its first couple of weeks on the market. Meanwhile, the studio’s long-running MMO, Black Desert Online, took a secondary but stable supporting role, bringing in $41.4 million.

Even sales splits and Western dominance

The financial briefing shed light on where the game is finding its immense success:

  • The Platform Split: In a remarkably balanced distribution, exactly 50% of sales came from PC players, while the remaining half was split across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • The Western Market: Despite Pearl Abyss being headquartered in South Korea, an overwhelming 81% of total operating revenue was generated by players in North America and Europe. Over 80% of Crimson Desert package sales were concentrated entirely within these western regions.

Taking Pywel to the “Next Level” with DLC

Driven by rave reviews and high player engagement, with average completion times clearing the 70-hour mark, Pearl Abyss is wasting no time looking toward the future.

The studio confirmed that the game will continue to receive optimization updates and hotfixes to sustain sales momentum. More importantly, management officially announced plans to expand the IP significantly.

“We are currently exploring various ways to broaden the game to the next level, including DLC,” the company stated during its investor call. “We will share specific details once concrete plans are finalized.”

Furthermore, Pearl Abyss hinted at “platform expansions” down the line, sparking community speculation that Crimson Desert might eventually see a port optimized for Nintendo’s newly unveiled Switch 2.
