Sony’s potential return to the portable market with a PS6 handheld is generating significant buzz. According to a new leak from well-known AMD insider KeplerL2, the upcoming system’s performance could surpass the Xbox Series S in both rasterization and ray tracing.

Discussing the leaked specifications for the system, currently codenamed “Canis Projects”, on the NeoGAF forums, the leaker stated: “The GPU is a bit ahead of the XSS in rasterization.

Visual fidelity and upscaling

Beyond raw power, the PS6 handheld is expected to offer superior image quality through PSSR 3 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). This would reportedly position the device ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to utilize a “Light” version of NVIDIA’s DLSS technology.

Leaked technical specifications

The rumored hardware configuration for Project Canis includes:

• CPU: 4 Zen 6c cores and 2 Zen 6 LP (Low Power) cores.
• GPU: 16 RDNA 5 Compute Units.
• Memory: 24 GB of 192-bit LPDDR5X RAM.
• Architecture: Manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm process with a die size of 135 mm².

Performance outlook

If these specs hold true, the handheld would not only beat the Xbox Series S in standard rendering (rasterization) but would be significantly more capable in handling advanced graphical features like Ray Tracing (RT) and Path Tracing (PT).
