In a surprise “Star Fox Direct” broadcast early this morning, Nintendo officially unveiled a ground-up remake of the legendary Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is set to launch on June 25, 2026, marking the first major release for the franchise in a decade.

The announcement was confirmed just ten minutes before the stream began, positioning the title as a key strategic pillar for the new hybrid console’s early lifecycle. The digital version will retail for €49.99, while a physical edition will be available for €59.99.
The remake meticulously preserves the “rail shooter” essence that defined the original, featuring Fox McCloud and his team across the Lylat System.
Vehicle Variety: Players will transition between aerial dogfights in the Arwing, ground-based missions in the Landmaster, and underwater sequences in the Blue Marine.
Innovative Controls: The game utilizes the “mouse mode” of the Joy-Con 2, providing a level of aiming precision never before seen in the series.
Asymmetric Co-op: A new cooperative mode allows one player to pilot the craft while a second player focuses exclusively on firing weapons.
Five expanded game modes
Nintendo has significantly bolstered the content beyond the core narrative:
Campaign Mode: Features new cinematic cutscenes and three distinct difficulty levels to cater to both veterans and newcomers.
Challenge Mode: Includes alternative objectives and a competitive scoring system.
Battle Mode: Supports up to eight players in 4v4 confrontations between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf, available both online and locally across three distinct maps.
GameChat: An integrated voice chat system that uses AR filters to replicate players’ facial expressions onto 3D character avatars in real-time.
GameShare: Allows for local multiplayer sharing using only a single game cartridge.
